A Very Veggie Game Show

Thursday Sep 11, 2025

Thursday Sep 11, 2025

On this episode, Mike and Liz chill out and play a game they call "Veggie Song or Not?!?" Liz has to guess which pop songs throughout the ages have a cover version done by the VeggieTales cast. They discuss Barry Manilow, whether or not you can truly recommend music to someone, and how Liz strongly disapproves of "Jesus Take the Wheel." This one is a lot more fun and a lot less heavy, saving the intense theology and history for next week.

This week Andy Bates returns and brought along his dad, Chris Bates to discuss King George and the Ducky! In what may be Liz's most researched episode yet, the four of them get into the historical context of the story of King David and Bathsheba, as well as the romance and intrigue awaiting Barbara Manatee.
Correction!
“I made a couple of errors in the episode, I mean children of Húrin (I think I tried to correct it but I stuttered and it sounds like I said children of Thurin)
And I said sefer yefrat instead of sefer yetzirah.”
-Liz
She would also like to apologize for trying to speak with a migraine

This week Michael and Liz are joined by visual artist Alice Harrison, as they discuss the best (?) episode of VeggieTales... "Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed." They unpack the episode's message about gossip, how it holds up today, and the surprisingly cinematic moments packed into this all time great episode.
Michael talks about how Larry-Boy is a more effective crimefighter than Batman, Liz talks about how the Rumor Weed is good Jewish representation, and Alice talks about the property values around downtown Bumblyburg.

Wednesday Aug 06, 2025

In this episode of Have We Got a Show for You, hosts Michael Ruffino and Liz Brody scale new heights as they tackle Josh and the Big Wall, the VeggieTales classic that delves into spiritual obedience, and… weaponized slushies.
Joining them is special guest Noah Cannon, who helps unpack the episode’s mix of biblical storytelling and chaotic French peas. They dive into the story of Jericho, question the morality of genocide being depicted in the bible, explore the role of Christian Zionism in Sunday school education and recount the majesty of the Song of the Cebu.

Wednesday Jul 30, 2025

In this episode of Have We Got a Show for You, Michael Ruffino and Liz Brody dive into the 50's sci-fi superhero epic, Larry-Boy and the Fib from Outer Space. What happens when a little lie turns into a big, monstrous problem for Junior Asparagus? And why does Larry-Boy’s plunger-headed heroism still resonate decades later?
Michael and Liz unpack the moral layers of this animated parable, riff on its surprisingly cinematic moments, and see how exactly this ties back into Joseph. Also a debate on the merits of Alexander Pope, and some gently teasing of Liz's Jersey accent.

Kurt Heinecke Interview!

Wednesday Jul 23, 2025

Wednesday Jul 23, 2025

On this special episode of the podcast, instead of discussing the Silly Songs compilation video Michael and Liz talk to the longtime music director at Big Idea Kurt Heinecke! They discuss musical inspiration, how Kurt went from working with a few synthesizers to a whole orchestra, his actual limited edition Art Bigotti bowling plate, Bob and Larry dancing at his daughters wedding, and the new series Kurt has been working on, Dead Sea Squirrels.

Thursday Jul 17, 2025

Writer, Comedian, and Educator Adam Condra join Michael and Liz to discuss the VeggieTales classic "Dave and the Giant Pickle." We discuss differing methods of educating kids about the bible, what dogs have to do with the lineage of Goliath, Steve Taylor, Monty Python, and how the Eastern Orthodox get down with puppets. This was a lot of fun, and a great jumping on point, so send this one to your friends loyal listener!

Wednesday Jul 09, 2025

In this episode Michael and Liz talk the fourth episode of VeggieTales "Rack, Shack and Benny" with comedian and former Big Idea brand ambassador Carson Elmore! They talk bunnies, child labor, tomato tattoos, factory unionizing, the inherit rhythm of the cucumber, and  a lesson in peer pressure.

Wednesday Jul 02, 2025

Local artist Greer Micelli joins Michael and Liz to discuss the third episode of VeggieTales, "Are You My Neighbor?". The episode revolves around a Dr. Seuss inspired retelling of the parable of "The Good Samaritan" called "The Story of Flibber-o-Loo", a Star Trek parody called "The Gourds Must Be Crazy", and the alltime favorite Silly Song "The Hairbrush Song." The discussion includes: the golden rule, if Babylon 5 is better than Deep Space Nine, Jesus knowing his audience, and... let's just say... uhh... "recent world events."
